At NC Plumbing Services, we take pride in educating our customers about all things plumbing. We encourage our customers to ask questions because, like Mom always said, no question is dumb. One question we receive is certainly not dumb and often asked: “How difficult is to install a second floor bathroom?” It’s not that difficult, but setting the plumbing for a new bathroom is the most critical part.

The first part in setting the plumbing is connecting to your drain lines. It’s important to contact your local inspection department to see whether a permit is needed for adding new plumbing. From there, locate a drain line within the access panel in the planned bathroom or from a wall that has the nearest access to the plumbing lines (if no direct access is available). Turn off the flow of water to the entire plumbing system as drain as much water as possible from the lines. The last step is installing a Y-fitting to connect to the sink and toilet drains.

Connecting the supply lines is the second step in setting the plumbing for the bathroom. Locate existing hot and cold water lines inside your basement, crawlspace or access panel closest to the bathroom. Turn off your water and try to drain as much as water as possible. Then install T-fittings into one side of each of the supply lines, with the third opening facing the direction of the bathroom. Finally, connect the water lines to the existing plumbing system.

Once the new plumbing is in place, you can add fixtures and furniture to complete the room. We highly recommend a professional take on any bathroom installation. Our skilled plumbers can set the plumbing for your news bathroom at a price that respects your budget.
